Medical Needle

A medical needle is a thin and hollow tube with sharp tip to easily penetrate the upper layer of the skin. It serves two main purpose i.e., to deliver a liquid medicine into the body as part of the treatment and to extract fluids (blood, plasma, tissue) from the body for disease analysis. It is attached on uppermost part of a syringe to achieve any of the two tasks. It is a detachable needle that is mostly intended for single-time use for one patient only. Syringes are meant for reuse; all you have to do is use a new medical needle every time on same syringe.  

The most generic name of a medical needle is ‘hypodermic’ where hypo means ‘under’ and derma means ‘skin’ i.e., under the skin. It is disposed after one-time use to reduce risk of cross-contamination and promote hygiene. Their size is measured in Birmingham gauge (G).
