Neonatal Ventilator

A neonatal Ventilator is designed to provide life support to premature infants and clinically-ill babies. It is a device that delivers oxygen into the lungs of infants who have immature lungs or suffer from respiratory distress syndrome, chronic lung disease, or other respiratory heath condition. It helps babies to breathe and maintain stable blood oxygen saturation level for their survival. It is used for intensive care for preterm or sick babies.

A neonatal ventilator equips monitoring parameters like heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen level and core temperature. It also integrates audio and visual safety alarms to alert caretakers of any system issue or baby’s health condition. The device uses a connecting tube as a medium between the ventilator and baby’s lung to deliver oxygen at certain pre-determined pressure and rate. Common modes for ventilation are volume control ventilation (VCV), pressure regulated volume control ventilation (PRVC), and pressure control ventilation (PCV) where pressure-targeted ventilation is the mostly prescribed. They are designed to run with electricity, as well as, on battery backup; and can be mounted on cast for portability.
