Solo Garlic

Allium sativum, most often known as "garlic," comes in many varieties (garlic). The skin is white and usually has purple stripes, similar to a pickling onion. When compared to regular garlic, peeling solo garlic takes a fraction of the time. Evidence suggests that the mountainous region of Yunnan, China is where the lone garlic clove first appeared. About 7,000 years ago, farmers in the region around the Himalayas began cultivating single-clove garlic. It's not just one type of garlic, but rather the result of deliberate cultivation methods. In temperate zones, garlic is often planted in late summer or early fall, and harvested in late spring.

The only real distinction between solo garlic and regular garlic is its unique form. Garlic heads typically consist of several cloves that are fused together, however single-clove garlic heads resemble onions in that they only feature a single, spherical clove. The Malvis use the terms ekal kuli and bitki lassan for single-clove garlic, also known as solo garlic or Normal bud garlic in Hindi. After the Diwali celebration in November and December, cultivation begins for the Rabi Season crops that will be harvested in the spring months of February and March.
